Google AI Mode Ads Go Global: Video That Reads Like Advice

Google spent part of Tuesday's earnings call on where its next ad dollars come from, and the answer was conversations. Core Search ad revenue grew 12% in Q3, down from 19% in the first quarter, the slowest this year. On the same call, Google announced it is taking ads in AI Mode and AI Overviews international for the first time, and adding multi-turn ad formats in the US that follow a back-and-forth.

The usage numbers explain why. AI Mode queries run about three times longer than a traditional search, and one in five include voice, an image or a document. That is a shopper describing a problem in full sentences, sometimes with a photo of the thing. Google says click-through on sponsored product listings there already matches organic listings, which tells you people are reading those placements as part of the answer.

Building IgniteAI for D2C brands, this is the shift we plan around. A keyword ad could shout; an ad inside an answer gets judged against the advice around it. The grammar that survives there is the one UGC taught performance marketing years ago: show the product solving the specific problem the person just described, in words a customer would actually use. Video that reads like a recommendation was already the best unit on social. It is about to matter in search too.

D2C founders: have your Google reps said anything yet about when AI Mode inventory opens in your market?
