Meta Makes Advertisers Own AI Edits: A D2C Brand Checklist
Meta revised its Commercial Terms this week, and one new section is worth reading before October 30. It makes advertisers "solely responsible" for ad content Meta's AI creates or changes, including changes from features Meta switches on itself. Agencies are already reporting AI-added sitelinks, translated copy and generated images on campaigns nobody opted in. One retailer found an AI illustration in an ad it never made.
Line up the dates and a pattern appears. Product browsing turns on inside existing Facebook and Instagram ads on October 28 unless you opt out. OpenAI begins rewriting ChatGPT ad creative by default around the 29th. Platforms are moving from serving your creative to editing it, and the fine print now says the edits belong to you.
Building IgniteAI, we keep landing on the same conclusion: brand control has to move upstream into generation. If you upload three hero assets and let Advantage+ improvise up to 150 versions of each, you cannot review what you never saw. The alternative is generating the variant set deliberately, with the hooks, languages and formats the brand approved, then switching off the enhancements nobody chose. Our platform is designed around that principle: every version a brand runs should be one it generated on purpose.
Practical step before the 30th: open Ads Manager, expand the collapsed Advantage+ menus, and note what is already switched on.
D2C founders, do you know which AI enhancements are live on your Meta account right now?
